Big Bang is up!

For those just joining us, TARDIS Big Bang is a fic-and-art festival where writers submit a fanfic of 20k words or more, and then artists illustrate or vid the fic. Check out the front page, browse the authors and art and vids/music, or search for fanfic by fandom (Classic and New Who, Torchwood, SJA) if you're picky. :D

My entry was not at all what I originally intended. *grins* But I had a ton of fun, and I love my art.

Title: Sing Morning Out Of Night
Fandom: Torchwood, New Who, Sarah Jane Adventures
Rating: PG-13 (mostly for dark themes; no explicit sex)

A strange deck of Tarot cards, a dying TARDIS, and UNIT's invasion of a coastal Welsh village lead Torchwood to investigate the disappearance of the Doctor, with some help from Sarah Jane and Luke Smith. This is a new incarnation of the Doctor, however, and none of them are prepared for what they find as they unravel the mystery.

And pipe this gorgeous artwork! I got three! A brilliant TARDIS Tarot card from [info]caersmane, a gorgeous Book Cover by [info]mad_jaks, and a very evocative (but, warning, spoilery!) Back Cover by [info]mizz_destiny. (I will be leaving all three of you feedbackses this evening!)

Have fun everyone!

Oh, Jesus motherfucking flag-waving Christ, it's absolutely brilliant, Sam! Just brilliant!

Every time I think "this is it; this is the best he's ever done", you turn around and surprise me.

Brilliant.

To be honest, it's not my favourite. It has some flaws, one or two glaring and the rest a little subtler. It's by far not the worst I've done, though :) And I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Wow. I did not expect any of that, really. And that's not a complaint, mind you. Convoluted, vivid, and everyone spot-on for characterization. Beautiful job and what a fantastic ending. :)

Thanks! It's...odd how much people like this, considering my own feelings on it :D

I should read it again to see what you did with the minor issues. Good to see it up now.

I should add, I think my favorite scene in the story is still Jack and the plant.

On that note, which story do you consider your personal best/favorite, Sam?

Ahahaha. Ahah. Hah.

I did...some things with...some of the minor issues?

I love my betas, I just don't always have the energy to do what they tell me. :D

Personal best/fave....I'd have to think about it. Within this fandom only, I'd say In Another Life, even if Cot_Tossed thought it was boring, or Dresser.

That's okay. My ego is happy with having voiced it and hope I get the chance to do something similar to a story that you've already check-marked for done.

I'll check those out.

I have to say, the line "Either that or we've grossly underestimated the mythological importance of Police Call Boxes" made me laugh out loud. And it was nice to snuggle down with a nice long Whoverse fic, especially one of yours.

And I want to see the whole Tarot deck.

I was pretty proud of that line myself :D

I'd like to design a Torchwood/Who tarot deck, especially since we now have enough Doctors to make up a good half of the Major Arcana on their own :D Though I rather fancy them for Kings and Knights.

It's taken me a couple of days to finish this, because of multitasking in RL, but well worth going back and back for. Nice one, Mr Sam!! The only thing that kept me reading through the scary 'Doctor dying' bits was the fact that I KNOW you like happy endings.

P.S: I want one of those ferns.

Thanks! Yes, I do like the happy endings *grin*

I totally want one of those ferns. There are ferns that will curl up when you stroke them, don't they have some at the botanical garden down by you? I swore they did.

Nick, one of my betas, thinks the Jack-and-Fern scene was the best scene of the piece :D
